Cold therapy with Compression?

Do I need to purchase a cold therapy system?

  • No. You can use other modes of cold therapy such as bags of ice after surgery.

Do I need to purchase the unit through MGH?

  • No, you can purchase the Breg Cube cold therapy system from other retailers, such as the Breg company and Surgi-care.  MGH offers this product for purchase as a convenience to our patients.
  • If you do purchase a cold therapy unit elsewhere, you will not be able to use it at the ASC on the day of surgery. Patients cannot bring in equipment from the outside, due to infection and regulatory concerns.

Can I purchase a different cold therapy system?

  • Yes, you can purchase a different type of cold therapy system; however, our staff are only trained to fit and provide education on the Breg Cube system. Because our staff are not trained to use other cold therapy systems, you will not be able to use it at the ASC on the day of surgery (except for Game Ready units as prescribed by your doctor).

Can I purchase a used cold therapy system?

  • This is not recommended due to the potential for an increased risk of infection.   If you choose to purchase a used cold therapy system, you will not be able to use it as the ASC on the day of surgery.
